Hi Michelle,
Social Media is a huge topic of discussion and argument these days between all my colleagues in the biz. I think we're all beginning to come to some sort of agreement about it.

It boils down to what's the best marketing avenue for your client's particular product or service. SM can be great for "gurus", or for a product that appeals to a lot of people who are passionate about it. Once example, if you're selling something related to auto racing, you've got a good shot at creating a following and spreading word-of-mouth.

Offline (let's say print advertising) remains expensive. But it might be appropriate for travel, or a high-end hotel or restaurant. In Asheville we are fortunate to have a local "alternative" newspaper that is not so alternative... it gets huge distribution and their ad rates remain very good. Many small business in my area have benefited from consistently running ads, even if they are small ones, in the MountainExpress. With print, consistency is they key - you cannot expect any kind of decent result by running an ad once or twice!
